A weekly live class gives students recurring time for instruction, practice, and review without requiring a full-day camp schedule. Beginners build core skills, while developing and advanced players continue with tactics, strategy, and tournament-relevant decision-making at an appropriate level.

What students work on next.
Depending on placement and class level, students work on:
Build the foundation
Learn piece movement and core rules, including castling, promotion, checkmate, and stalemate. Practice board vision, basic mating patterns, simple tactics, and introductory pawn endings.
Strengthen decisions
Build comfort with notation and different time controls. Work on opening principles, tactical themes, mating patterns, king-and-pawn endings, and a more deliberate thinking process.
Prepare for deeper play
Study calculation and strategic themes such as pawn structure, open lines, key squares, exchanges, defense, prophylaxis, and maneuvering. Review mistakes and practice tournament-relevant decision-making.

How do I choose the right class?

Can complete beginners join?
Yes. The Summer schedule includes beginner-level in-person and live online options. Choose the class matching the child’s age and experience, or begin with an evaluation.
Can my child join after the semester begins?
Summer tuition may be prorated for the number of weeks attended when a suitable class has space. Confirm the final amount during registration.
What happens if a class is missed?
Absence and makeup terms are governed by the registration agreement shown before enrollment. Contact the academy about the specific date before assuming that a makeup or credit is available.
Can my child change groups?
Contact the academy before making a change. Another group must be appropriate for the student’s level and have current availability.
