A leading expert on chess openings and endgames, chess tutor GM Sergey Makarychev has coached world champions Garry Kasparov (Sergey was Kasparov’s principal coach from 1991 to 1994), Anatoly Karpov, and Nona Gaprindashvili. As captain-coach, he led the Soviet and Russian teams to gold medals at five Chess Olympiads. Under his guidance, teams repeatedly won World and European Team Championships as well as the European Chess Club Cup. Sergey Makarychev was awarded the prestigious title of FIDE Senior Trainer for his outstanding coaching service. Additionally, Sergey has an impressive career as a chess journalist, having authored a highly popular TV program and later a YouTube channel. In 2015, Sergey received FIDE’s “World’s Best Chess Journalist” prize, and his name was included in the FIDE Golden Book. Sergey has co-authored two books for children and coaches, From A to Z and Chess Fairytale.
